Redren was the first world to be explored by James Stone on his arrival in Evigone
The Tax Collectors' ship makes only a very brief appearance but its design has a significance that goes beyond this first book in the series. I based the shape on an automatic pistol or a pump-action shotgun. This would be one of the smaller ships in the Rickobite navy - I did design bigger ones but this is the first one I made with cross-sections and deck plans.
Though only the holiday aspect of Agnatha is featured in the book, it has a much older history.
The first version of the Felspar was, quite literally, sketched on the back of an envelope. I tried to make this picture slightly more interesting but the ship is just a barn with a greenhouse on the top. The important part for me was to be able to use the deck plans to accurately describe how the characters move around etc.
We don't get to see much of the Cissoid in the first book, but I wanted to have an accurate set of plans to work with. This was the second version - the first was vast and impractical. The ship had to be a school with a reasonable number of students and not a city in space. I based this design on the Canberra - now, sadly, broken for scrap.
